Giuliano Vangi A Grand Story 2004

Various human figures arise up out of a block of pure white marble. According to its creator, Giuliano Vangi, this work represents the meaning and the presence of human beings, particularly a man’s life. A man sitting here on the ground with his arms clasped around his knees is an ancient man. Behind this man, a woman’s face in his memory reveals her silhouette like the wind. Let’s proceed towards the left, and circle around and look at the work clockwise. You can see that the young olive tree is lush with leaves. Next to it, the gateway of the life opens up. You will find that it becomes more narrow as it goes. This symbolizes Life’s hardships. Following the stepping-stones, lets turn towards the left. An ancient oak tree extends its branches, gently caressing the faces of loving couples with its ample leaves. It might represent the importance of the coexistence of human beings and nature. Further on, we see a figure of a man with his face lifted up. Even in the hardships of life, modern man advances forward with hope. The Italian master Giuliano Vangi is an artist who expresses the dignity and isolation of people living in closed off societies filled with suffering. All of the people that appear in his works are ordinary people, and although they are beset by anxiety, anguish, worries, arrogance, and immorality, the dignity of mankind is still present, bringing the consequent beauty upon the work.
